Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly been handed the opportunity to revive their interest in Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, with the Catalan giants prepared to listen to offers for the 22-year-old this summer.
Casado has emerged as one of the players whose future at Camp Nou is increasingly uncertain. Reports suggest Barcelona are willing to sanction his departure as Hansi Flick looks to reshape his midfield options ahead of the new season.
The Spain international has previously attracted strong Premier League interest, with Chelsea having explored a move for him before Manchester United subsequently joined the list of admirers.
CHELSEA‘s interest dates back to 2025, when the Blues reportedly considered Casado as a potential midfield addition. Manchester United’s interest intensified this summer, with reports in Spain claiming that the club had been monitoring his situation and that his profile appealed to Michael Carrick.
Casado’s current situation has changed considerably, however. Despite remaining highly regarded for his work rate, defensive ability and leadership, competition for places at Barcelona has left him facing an uncertain role.
Barcelona’s midfield options include Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Bernal and Eric Garcia, while the club’s potential move for Rodri could further increase competition for places. Recent reports claim Barcelona are seeking at least €30 million for Casado, although the club may have to accept a lower offer if a suitable buyer emerges.
For United, Casado could represent an attractive option as they continue to strengthen their midfield. The Spaniard is particularly effective in a deeper role, offering defensive discipline, energy and an ability to keep possession. Barcelona themselves describe him as a midfielder who provides balance to the team.
CHELSEA could also see Casado as a useful addition given their continued desire for technically capable and versatile midfielders. However, competition within their squad could make regular first-team football difficult, which may be a crucial factor in any decision made by the player.
Casado is reportedly keen to secure consistent playing time and has previously been reluctant to leave Barcelona unless the move offers him a significant role. A report from July claimed he had rejected the prospect of joining Chelsea and Manchester City because of concerns over his playing opportunities.
That could make the situation particularly intriguing for United and Chelsea. Both clubs may have an opportunity to sign a talented Barcelona academy product, but convincing Casado that they can provide the first-team football he wants could prove just as important as agreeing a transfer fee with the Catalan club
