Chelsea may make one or two further additions to the squad before the transfer window closes, depending on outgoings, but it is a VERY GOOD sign that the bulk of the club’s incomings have been secured before the start of the season.

Despite having to effectively rip up their summer transfer plans after Xabi Alonso requested to be involved in the decision-making process, the recruitment team have managed to get all their business done within six weeks of the Spaniard’s arrival.

It means Alonso won’t have to integrate new additions at the last minute, which is the last thing a new manager needs when he has so much else on his plate.
