Barcelona have reportedly identified Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres as a potential summer target, with the Gunners said to be willing to consider a blockbuster sale if their £100million valuation is met.
The latest reports have added another twist to Arsenal’s increasingly intriguing striker situation, with the Premier League champions continuing to be linked with a move for Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen.
Barcelona are understood to be exploring alternatives in their search for a new centre-forward, with Gyokeres now emerging as an option. Reports claim the Catalan giants could make a move for the Sweden international, who only joined Arsenal from Sporting last summer.
Gyokeres arrived at the Emirates following a prolific spell in Portugal and Arsenal invested heavily to secure his services. However, his first season in north London has reportedly fallen short of expectations, with questions raised over whether he is the long-term answer to Mikel Arteta’s attacking needs.
That has fuelled speculation that Arsenal could be prepared to make a dramatic decision if Barcelona meet their asking price.
The reported £100m valuation would represent a substantial return on Arsenal’s original investment and, crucially, could provide the club with the financial muscle required to pursue another elite striker.
Osimhen has increasingly emerged as one of Arsenal’s targets. The Nigerian enjoyed an impressive spell at Galatasaray after making his move from Napoli permanent and remains one of Europe’s most dangerous penalty-box forwards. Arsenal have held discussions around the possibility of bringing him to England, although Galatasaray have been reluctant to sanction his departure.
Reports have suggested that ARSENAL could therefore view Gyokeres’ potential departure as a route towards funding an ambitious move for Osimhen.
There is, however, considerable uncertainty surrounding the claims. Other reports have indicated that Barcelona’s interest in Gyokeres has not yet developed into formal talks with Arsenal, while Arsenal’s pursuit of Osimhen has also been described as far from straightforward.
For Arteta, allowing Gyokeres to leave after only one season would nevertheless represent a major gamble.
The Arsenal manager has invested heavily in developing a squad capable of competing for multiple trophies, and replacing a striker so soon after his arrival would carry significant risk.
Osimhen, though, would offer a different profile. His pace, physicality, movement and proven goalscoring record could give ARSENAL another dimension in attack and potentially provide the ruthless edge required to compete at the highest level
