[Deivid Washington could finally get his Strasbourg move two years](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c0l5ry3g85do) after Chelsea abandoned plans to send the Brazilian to their BlueCo sister club.
Strasbourg are among the clubs currently in talks to sign the 21-year-old before the transfer window closes, while teams in Portugal and elsewhere in Europe are also interested.
A move to France is understood to appeal to Washington as he looks for regular first-team football after struggling to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.
For Chelsea, however, the Strasbourg interest comes with significant history.
Chelsea paid around **£17m** to sign Washington from Santos in 2023 on a seven-year contract.
Only one year later, Strasbourg agreed a deal reportedly worth around **€21m (£18m)** to sign him permanently.
That transfer never happened.
Chelsea pulled out at the last minute amid scrutiny surrounding a deal between two clubs under the same BlueCo ownership structure. ESPN reported at the time that concerns had been raised over the proposed transaction.
Two years later, Strasbourg are back in the picture.
Washington has still been unable to force his way into Chelsea’s senior plans and also endured a difficult return to Santos on loan.
A fresh move could therefore provide the reset his career increasingly needs.
Strasbourg have already played an important role in developing Chelsea-owned talent, but Washington would arrive in France at a very different point in his career.
Chelsea need him playing consistently rather than remaining on the fringes of Xabi Alonso’s squad.
The potential move also comes as another former Chelsea youngster, Diego Moreira, prepares for a huge transfer after developing at Strasbourg. ReadChelsea has looked at [how Moreira’s value exploded towards £47.5m after entering the BlueCo pathway](https://readchelsea.com/2026/08/18/former-chelsea-winger-set-for-stunning-47-5m-move-after-blueco-rise/).
Washington would hope for a similar revival.
Strasbourg are not his only option and no agreement has yet been reported.
But after Chelsea’s first attempt to move him across the BlueCo network collapsed in dramatic circumstances, the same destination could finally provide Washington with the opportunity he has been missing.
