TalkSPORT reporter brings bad news for Tottenham as he claims Liverpool forward will not be…

Liverpool star Cody Gakpo has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham.

Less than two weeks are left until the transfer window slams shut, and it looks like Tottenham Hotspur are struggling to get the final part of the business done.

Recent reports suggest the North Londoners are looking to sign a brand-new front three before the September 1 transfer deadline, with two wingers and a striker on their radar. One of the players on their radar is Liverpool star Cody Gakpo.

The Netherlands international’s camp has already reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with Spurs, showing his willingness to become a part of Roberto De Zerbi’s side. Tottenham are accelerating their pursuit of the winger, with Roberto De Zerbi understood to be a big admirer of the player. They are keen to conclude a deal with Liverpool “very quickly” and bring Cody Gakpo to N17.

TalkSPORT reporter provides disheartening update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Cody Gakpo

Tottenham tabled an opening £60 million bid for the Dutch star at the weekend. However, fresh reports suggest that Liverpool have rejected that bid and are demanding more for the 27-year-old.

Now, talkSPORT chief correspondent Alex Crook has provided an update on Spurs’ chase of Gakpo. He claims that the Reds will block the forward’s move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he has had a good pre-season and the club chiefs believe new boss Andoni Iraola will be able to get the best out of him this term.

“I don’t think it will happen. Speaking to sources at Liverpool they think he’s had a good pre-season under Iraola, they think he’s a player that Iraola can get the best out of,” Alex Crook said on the talkSPORT show (h/t TEAMtalk).

“I think he probably would be open to the move, but at the moment that’s not one I expect to happen between now and deadline day.”

De Zerbi driving Tottenham’s chase for Gakpo

Tottenham are showing serious interest in the Dutch star, mainly driven by De Zerbi, who is keen to make the 27-year-old a part of his squad. The North Londoners are hoping to agree a fee with Liverpool for the player, although there is still nothing resembling an agreement in place between the two clubs.

The versatile forward’s future at Anfield remains in limbo heading into the new campaign. The onus is clearly on the Spurs chiefs to table an offer that would convince Liverpool to part ways with their valuable asset. However, if we are to go by Alex Crook’s revelation, it does not bode well for De Zerbi’s club.

Having reached an agreement in principle on personal terms, Tottenham would want Gakpo to internally push within the Merseyside club to release him.
