Liverpool’s pursuit of PSG forward Ibrahim Mbaye remains a topic of debate among journalists.
The 18-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer, but time will tell whether or not the transfer materialises late in the 2026 window.
Liverpool have reportedly agreed a contract for Mbaye
According to a claim from RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Mbaye on a five-year contract ahead of a potential transfer fee agreement with PSG.
He reports on X: “Liverpool have reached an agreement with Ibrahim Mbaye. The two parties have agreed on the financial terms of a five-year contract. Mbaye has made his choice and does not wish to pursue interest from Bayer Leverkusen.
“As exclusively revealed by @RMCsport Liverpool want to sign both Mbaye and Bradley Barcola.”

Three major reporters claim Mbaye chase has stalled
Three reliable and trusted journalists suggest that Liverpool have cooled their interest in Mbaye, although it feels like media talk designed to increase pressure on PSG.
Simon Jones says: “As it stands, Liverpool are unlikely to pursue interest in Ibrahim Mbaye despite exploratory talks.”
Ian Doyle reports: “Liverpool have been looking at Ibrahim Mbaye but, as things stand, they are unlikely to pursue their interest in the winger.”
James Pearce claims: “Ibrahim Mbaye has also been discussed this summer but senior Liverpool figures insist their interest has only been exploratory to date and strongly dismissed suggestions that personal terms have already been agreed.”
My feeling: Mbaye will be a Liverpool player soon
With zero pathway to minutes at PSG after the French side signed Mika Godts (Ajax), Ferran Torres (Barcelona) and Maghnes Akliouche (AS Monaco), there is almost no way for Mbaye to stay at the Parc des Princes without wasting away on the bench.
It would be catastrophic for both the player’s development and PSG’s ability to receive a decent fee down the line.
Selling him to Liverpool is now almost their only option. I think claims that the Reds are not serious about signing him this summer are simply evidence that the club is using journalists as so-called mouthpieces.
We’ve seen them do this time and again. It’s effective but not necessarily proof that Liverpool have really walked away.
