Newcastle United are in talks to sign Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez as they look for midfield reinforcements following the exits of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have offered former Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo the chance to terminate his contract by mutual consent.

Romano posted on X: ‘Juventus have offered Arthur Melo the possibility to terminate the contract on mutual agreement. Details of the deal being discussed as if done before the end of August, Arthur could join new club as free agent.”

Back in 2020, Juventus paid €80.6million to sign Arthur Melo from Barcelona, making him one of the club’s most expensive-ever transfers. As part of the deal, Miralem Pjanic moved to Barcelona.

Melo has not played for Juventus since May 2022. The club have since loaned him out four times while repeatedly extending his contract to reduce his amortisation costs and maintain his transfer value.

Now 30 and under contract until 2027, Melo is reportedly earning €5million net per year. Juventus are once again looking for a solution to part ways with the midfielder.

Besiktas have emerged as a potential destination, with new coach Vincenzo Italiano reportedly keen on reuniting with Melo after working with him at Fiorentina during the 2023/24 season.

Melo also spent time on loan at Liverpool and Girona before returning to his boyhood club, Gremio, where he began his career before joining Barcelona for €31million.

Arthur Melo spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Liverpool but made just one appearance. Melo joined the Reds from Juventus on September 1, 2022, and made his debut less than a week later as a second-half substitute in a Champions League defeat to Napoli.

However, a thigh injury sidelined Arthur for several months, and he did not play for Liverpool again before his loan spell ended.
