QPR boss dismisses reports linking club with Liverpool defender

Liverpool have several players facing important weeks in the summer transfer window, with decisions to be made on their futures before the market closes until January.

Much of the focus so far has been on new arrivals, with Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo joining the senior squad.

More signings are expected, with Bradley Barcola a top target for the left wing and Ibrahim Mbaye also linked with a move.

There have also been several departures, with academy players including Amara Nallo, Calum Scanlon and Armin Pesci leaving on loan to gain valuable experience.

More exits could follow. Cody Gakpo is attracting interest from Tottenham, while Federico Chiesa is considering his options.

Portsmouth, QPR and Blackburn Rovers are also pursuing Liverpool defender Luke Chambers, who can play at centre-back and wing-back.

Chambers impressed during pre-season, scoring once and performing well at centre-back despite being a natural left-back. However, with Araujo joining and Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni nearing returns, a loan move could be on the cards.

QPR manager Julien Stephan has dismissed reports linking the club with Chambers. Rangers have already signed Boy Kemper and Dennis Cirkin this summer and have no plans to bring in another left-back.

“No – we took Dennis last week, so I’m very happy with Kemper, Cirkin and Kealey Adamson, who came play on the left side,” said Stephan. “Tariq Lamptey can play on the left side as well, so I think we have enough options in this position.”

Luke Chambers is a talented left-back who progressed through Liverpool’s academy before breaking into the senior team.

He joined the academy at six and signed his first professional contract in 2021. A European U19 Championship winner with England, Chambers began senior football on loan at Kilmarnock during the second half of the 2022-23 season, making 16 appearances.

He made his Liverpool debut in September 2023, coming on as a substitute against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

Chambers made three more appearances before joining Wigan Athletic on loan. He returned to Wigan for the 2024-25 season before joining Charlton Athletic in January 2026. His spell with the Addicks proved productive, with Chambers making 18 appearances in the Championship.
