The deal makes sense only after Fernandez leaves, because Chelsea could spend again once City meet the Argentine’s valuation. Bournemouth can demand a premium, especially with Bristol City’s sell-on clause attached to Scott’s transfer.
The key issue concerns function, rather than reputation. Scott is younger, more mobile and better equipped for repeated defensive work. Yet replacing a midfielder who already commands games at Chelsea would be very risky.
