Chelsea have decided Emmanuel Emegha will remain part of Xabi Alonso’s first-team squad this season after weeks of uncertainty over the striker’s future.
The 23-year-old had previously been considered a candidate for another move away despite only officially joining Chelsea from Strasbourg this summer.
However, The Athletic’s Simon Johnson now reports that Emegha will stay at Stamford Bridge.
The decision could have major consequences for Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap.
🚨 After some uncertainty, it has now been determined that Emmanuel Emegha WILL be part of the Chelsea squad this season.

Emmanuel Emegha Chelsea decision changes striker picture
Chelsea agreed Emegha’s move from Strasbourg last September before he officially joined Alonso’s squad this summer.
The club’s official profile shows the Dutch forward arrived after scoring 26 goals across 65 Ligue 1 appearances for Strasbourg.
His immediate Chelsea future was far less certain.
Earlier reporting suggested Emegha could leave again as Alonso attempted to reduce an overloaded attacking department, with Chelsea having several recognised centre-forward options.
That position has now changed.
Keeping Emegha gives Alonso another alternative behind Joao Pedro and increases the pressure on Chelsea to resolve the futures of other strikers.
Jackson is valued at around £60m and continues to attract interest. ReadChelsea reported on Tuesday that Atletico Madrid are considering the Chelsea striker as uncertainty surrounds Julian Alvarez.
Napoli have since also asked for information about the Senegal international.
Delap provides another potential exit route, with Chelsea seeking around £40m after Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Everton showed interest.
Combined, the two players carry reported valuations worth around £100m.
Chelsea are not guaranteed to sell either striker and Emegha staying does not automatically force another forward out.
But Alonso’s hierarchy has become clearer.
Joao Pedro finished pre-season with seven goals and appears firmly established at the front of the queue. Emegha has now been told he will remain part of the squad.
For Jackson and Delap, Chelsea’s latest decision could make the final two weeks of the transfer window increasingly significant.
