Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has discussed where Jack Grealish’s future at the club stands after the winger came off the bench in Sunday’s Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

Jack Grealish recorded his first appearance in sky blue since joining Everton on loan for the 2025/26 season, having missed the entirety of Manchester City’s recent pre-season tour of Hong Kong and South Korea as he continued to recover from a foot stress fracture that brought a premature end to his stay on Merseyside during the second-half of the last campaign.
The 30-year-old forward is heading into the final year of his big-money Manchester City contract and there remains plenty of doubt over his future as the Blues enter a new chapter under manager Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s departure back in May.
After pursuing a loan at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for regular minutes under David Moyes last season, Jack Grealish is now firmly back at his parent club with just weeks remaining until the summer transfer deadline, and there remains no imminent resolution on the England international’s club future.
Maresca: Overall, I think Jack was good against Arsenal
Jack Grealish added a cutting edge of sorts to Manchester City’s frontline when he came on at half-time against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon in the FA Community Shield and while he was rusty upon returning from such a significant injury lay-off. Not to any fault of Grealish himself, the Blues did not exactly purr against the reigning Premier League champions.
However, Enzo Maresca has outlined that those within the Manchester City dressing room who keep their head down and work hard on the training ground will be given a chance to make their case to the Italian coach this season.
Specifically on Jack Grealish’s display in the Community Shield defeat at the Millennium Stadium, the Manchester City manager said, “Overall, I think Jack was good. The ones that are still here, they want to work every day and if they deserve it, they're going to get minutes.”

Will Jack Grealish play for Man City next season?
Jack Grealish does not have a dearth of publicly identified suitors if he were to look for another loan to kick on from a positive spell at Everton last season, albeit one that saw his season end with injury in January.
Recent reporting in the English press has pointed to the unlikelihood of Grealish making the cut under Enzo Maresca for the 2026/27 season, but the new Manchester City manager could yet opt to give the club’s second-most expensive signing a chance to show what he can offer in the opening games of the season.
Continuing on whether a decision has been made on Jack Grealish’s Manchester City future with just a fortnight remaining in the summer market, Maresca added, “At the moment, the transfer window is open. And we'll see what happens.”
The 2026 summer transfer window will officially shut on September 1 and unless Jack Grealish can find a club before Sunday’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium, he is likely to be involved in Manchester City’s first two league games against the Cherries and Crystal Palace.
