Not for sale: Liverpool ready to reward Super Eagles-eligible forward with a new deal
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are preparing to open talks with Super Eagles-eligible forward Rio Ngumoha over a new professional contract, with discussions expected to accelerate in the coming weeks as the Nigeria-eligible forward approaches his 18th birthday.
Ngumoha enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Reds last season, announcing himself in impressive fashion by scoring on his debut at St James' Park to help Liverpool secure a 3-2 victory.
His performances subsequently attracted interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, sparking speculation over his future at Anfield during the current summer transfer window.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said Liverpool are keen to secure Ngumoha's long-term future, stressing that Bayern Munich were never a realistic option because the youngster was not available for sale.
"For Rio, conversations are expected to accelerate over a new contract in the next weeks because Rio is going to turn 18-year-old at the end of August," Romano said.
"Liverpool are prepared to discuss a new professional contract, something important for Rio. Bayern were never an option in this summer transfer window. The player was never for sale."
With the new campaign fast approaching, Ngumoha will be hoping to build on his impressive breakthrough season, establish himself further in Liverpool's first-team plans and justify the faith placed in his development.
