Arsenal handed Gabriel Jesus transfer twist after Napoli clear Lukaku hurdle

Arsenal’s attempt to resolve Gabriel Jesus’ future has hit another complication despite Napoli finally completing the departure that was expected to unlock their move for the Brazilian.

Romelu Lukaku has already left Napoli for Fenerbahce, but the Serie A club are still not ready to move concretely for Jesus.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Napoli need another attacking departure before advancing, with Noa Lang among the players who could leave.

🚨🔵⚪️ Napoli are aware of conditions to sign Gabriel Jesus and talks took place on club side.

Deal now depends on Napoli exits (more needed after Lukaku) and agreement on personal terms. But talks underway. 🇧🇷

Gabriel Jesus Arsenal exit still depends on Napoli sale

Jesus remains on Napoli’s shortlist as they reshape their attack following Lukaku’s move to Turkey.

However, Di Marzio reports that Napoli have also made enquiries for Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

That creates a fresh problem for Arsenal.

Lukaku’s departure had previously appeared to be the major obstacle preventing Napoli from accelerating their interest in Jesus.

Instead, another outgoing is now required before the Italian champions are expected to move properly for any of their Premier League targets.

Lang could provide the solution.

Ajax, Galatasaray and Atalanta have all explored moves for the Dutch winger, although Napoli have so far resisted proposals based around an initial loan.

Arsenal therefore remain in a waiting position with Jesus.

The 29-year-old has entered the final year of his contract and ReadArsenal previously reported that the Gunners value him at around £18million to £20m.

A permanent sale this summer would prevent Arsenal entering 2027 with the prospect of losing the striker for nothing.

It could also become increasingly relevant to the club’s remaining attacking plans.

Arsenal continue to monitor opportunities at the top end of the market, with Julián Álvarez’s Atlético Madrid situation taking another unexpected turn on Wednesday.

For now, though, Jesus’ own exit remains unresolved.

Lukaku leaving Napoli removed one hurdle Arsenal had been waiting for.

Unexpectedly, it has not removed the last one.
