Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa. The Premier League champions have advanced talks after dialogue at ownership level helped reduce the valuation gap for the 28-year-old England international.
Konsa holds particular appeal because of his ability to play at both centre-back and right-back. He has been high on Arsenal’s target list all summer as the club seek cover for the injured William Saliba and Jurrien Timber. The defender returned to Villa for pre-season on Monday after an extended break following the World Cup.

Konsa has two years remaining on his contract after signing a five-year deal in 2023. He made 48 appearances last season as Villa won the Europa League and finished fourth in the Premier League, and has totalled 286 appearances since joining from Brentford in 2019. He started every England match at the World Cup until the semi-final.
Arsenal have also held interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarrel Quansah but are progressing the Konsa option. Mikel Arteta said recently: “We want to improve and evolve the squad. In order to do that we have detected some areas that can be strengthened and that is what we are trying to do.”
For Villa, a Konsa departure would continue a summer of significant change after the exits of Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne. The club face a reshaped squad as the new season begins.
