Chelsea have strongly denied claims that super agent Jorge Mendes has been brought in to help sell Enzo Fernandez.
Speculation had suggested the Blues were using Mendes to facilitate a transfer as Manchester City continue to explore a move for the Argentina international.
However, Daily Mail journalist Kieran Gill reports that Chelsea say there is no truth to those claims.
That denial is significant because it cuts against the idea that Chelsea are actively trying to engineer Fernandez’s departure.

Chelsea deny Jorge Mendes involvement in Enzo Fernandez sale
Manchester City remain interested in Fernandez and have reportedly tested Chelsea’s resolve with a verbal approach worth around €120million.
Chelsea’s valuation remains significantly higher at around €140m, leaving a substantial gap between the clubs.
ReadChelsea reported earlier that Martin Zubimendi has emerged as a potential contingency option if Fernandez eventually leaves Stamford Bridge.
That does not mean Chelsea are actively trying to sell.
The latest Mendes denial points the other way.
Bringing in one of football’s most influential agents to help source a buyer would have suggested Chelsea were prepared to accelerate an exit.
Gill’s update makes clear that Chelsea reject that version of events.
Chelsea stance on Enzo remains strong
Fernandez remains tied to a long-term contract and Xabi Alonso can continue planning with the midfielder if Manchester City refuse to meet Chelsea’s demands.
The Blues therefore have little reason to force the situation.
Chelsea are already making major contractual decisions around their key players, with Joao Pedro signing improved terms as his status in Alonso’s project becomes clearer.
Fernandez’s situation is different because outside interest remains intense.
But the latest denial is important.
Chelsea are not, according to the club, employing Mendes to find him a way out.
If Enzo leaves, it increasingly looks like Manchester City will have to force the issue themselves with an offer Chelsea consider impossible to reject.
