Inter Milan close in on £30m transfer deal for Premier League star

Serie A champions Inter Milan are set to sign Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones on a permanent basis.

According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, the Nerazzurri are have reached a verbal agreement to pay £30 million for the midfielder.

An agreement on personal terms is in place, and a medical will be scheduled for the 25-year-old in due course.

The agreement between the teams brings an end to the Italian side’s pursuit of Jones, who has been at Liverpool for the entirety of his career so far.

The versatile 25-year-old has played 228 games for the Reds since his debut in the 2018-19 season, but failed to nail down a regular starting shirt.

With one year left on his contract at his boyhood club, he has sought an exit, and an agreement has been reached to avoid losing him for free next summer.

Curtis Jones will become the third Englishman to join Inter Milan this summer, following moves for John Stones and Djed Spence.

The reigning Italian champions have agreed to bring in the midfielder as a replacement for Davide Frattesi, who left the club for Lazio this summer.

Curtis Jones played in the first three pre-season games under Andoni Iraola this summer before a minor hip problem ruled him out of the last three.

The Reds may see a need to bring in a new player before the end of the window to replace Jones in their squad.

They may also choose to trust 19-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni, who has been impressive whenever he has been called upon since joining the club three years ago.
