The optimism is back at Chelsea. The appointment of Xabi Alonso, the massive club-record signing of Morgan Rogers, and a rested Cole Palmer – it is all pointing towards a successful season.
It’s been matched by pundits, and even Opta’s Supercomputer predicted Chelsea will finish in the top five come May 2027. Given the Premier League’s coefficient, that will mean a return to the Champions League.

“João Pedro signs new Chelsea deal until June 2033, documents approved. The Brazilian stays and gets salary rise while new contract also includes option to extend beyond 2032. João, key part of CFC project.”
While Chelsea have not actually extended the length remaining on his contract, the wages show their intent to keep Pedro. It comes after weeks of rumours linking Pedro with a move to giants Barcelona.
New Pedro contract is Chelsea’s most-important deal this summer
If Pedro performs anything like he did last season this time around, then he is going to attract more interest from Europe’s biggest clubs once again. But handing Pedro a new deal is a real sign of intent.
While Chelsea are often willing to cash in on their big stars, they realise the importance of Pedro. They realise that it is of the utmost importance to keep Pedro, and keeping him happy is a priority.
The new deal might not have extended any length of time he is due to remain at Chelsea for, but the increased wages give Pedro more incentive to remain in West London for the majority of his career.
Chelsea have not skimped this summer, despite failing to qualify for Europe. They’ve spent big, more than £350m on 11 new signings. Yet, they have gone out of their way to solidify Pedro’s future at Chelsea.
It is a sign of intent because it shows Chelsea know Pedro is both the present and the future of this club. Keeping him happy is more important than anything they could have done, ending any lingering interest.
