The Denver Nuggets have identified one of Cleveland's most promising young players as a potential target in ongoing discussions involving Peyton Watson.
According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, Denver has shown interest in Jaylon Tyson as part of a potential sign-and-trade that would send Watson to the Cavaliers.
Tyson, Cleveland's 2024 first-round pick, is viewed by Denver as a player who could potentially develop into a replacement for Watson on the wing.
However, the Cavaliers have so far kept Tyson off limits in negotiations, according to Sidery.
Cavaliers reluctant to include Tyson
Cleveland's stance is understandable after Tyson made a significant jump during his second NBA season.
The No. 20 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft averaged 13.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 66 games in 2025-26 while shooting 49.3% from the field and an impressive 44.6% from three-point range.
His breakout campaign established him as one of the Cavs' more valuable young assets, making Cleveland reluctant to sacrifice him even as its pursuit of Watson becomes increasingly serious.
Denver's interest in Tyson also makes sense from a roster-building perspective. At 23, he could provide a younger, cheaper wing option if Watson leaves through a sign-and-trade.
Watson remains major Cavaliers target
Meanwhile, Watson is coming off the best season of his NBA career, averaging 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 41.1% from three in 54 games for Denver.
The restricted free agent has yet to reach a new agreement with the Nuggets, who have reportedly offered him a contract in the $70 million range.
Cleveland has emerged as one of the strongest destinations for Watson and has already made roster moves aimed at creating additional financial flexibility.
The Cavaliers recently traded Dennis Schroder to Charlotte, saving nearly $7 million, while Max Strus has also been discussed as a potential outgoing piece as Cleveland searches for a workable sign-and-trade structure.
Sidery previously reported that the Nuggets and Cavaliers are deep in negotiations involving Watson, although no final trade structure has been agreed upon.
