Everton are reportedly eyeing a surprise move to sign Aston Villa star Matty Cash.
The Toffees are desperate to add to their defensive options before the end of the transfer window after allowing Seamus Coleman to depart at the end of his contract, while David Moyes has already brought in Hayden Hackney, Christian Norgaard, and Brennan Johnson this summer, alongside Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl, whose loan moves have been made permanent.
Moyes has been looking at right-back options all summer, with Crystal Palace star Daniel Munoz understood to be among the top targets, while West Ham star Aaron Wan-Bissaka was also targeted. But the DR Congo star is now on the verge of a move to Villa Park, and that has opened the door for a new target to emerge for Everton.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, writing on his Patreon account, Everton have now made Poland international Matty Cash their top right-back target for the remainder of the window.
Moyes has been eyeing up targets for a number of months, but Cash has now emerged as the top target ahead of other potential options. It's reported that the 29-year-old could be tempted by a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium if he were to be offered a long-term contract, with his current deal at Villa Park running until 2029.
Cash is believed to be valued at around £20m, which is a similar price to what Munoz was expected to cost. However, the Scottish manager is understood to have had reservations about using the Colombian in a back four, which is why they have now turned their attention elsewhere.

Fees correct prior to summer 2026
Cash has been a regular for Villa for several years since joining from Nottingham Forest, and has established himself as one of the most important members of Unai Emery's squad.
But with Wan-Bissaka joining, and the potential of a big fee being on the table, it's possible that Cash could be on the move.
Villa have already seen Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne, and Morgan Rogers depart this summer, while they have also agreed a deal with Arsenal for Ezri Konsa to move on, and Al Hilal have tabled a formal offer for Ollie Watkins, who is keen on a move to Saudi Arabia.

Everton know that they need full-back options, so it's no surprise that they have been pushing to find a solution for the majority of the window.
Getting business done early is always the preference for all clubs, especially in the Premier League, but sometimes waiting to see what opportunities arise later in the window is the best way, and that could be the case with this situation.
Cash is a top right-back with top-level experience and is in the prime years of his career. If Everton can get a deal done, it would be a major upgrade on their squad and team, and would be one of the best value-for-money deals of the summer.
