Arsenal expect Mikel Arteta’s contract situation to be resolved imminently after chief executive Richard Garlick delivered a significant update on the manager’s future.
Arteta has entered the final 12 months of his current agreement after leading Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season.
No new contract has yet been formally announced, but Garlick has now indicated there is little concern inside the Emirates over Arteta’s long-term future.
Mikel Arteta says he wants to be at Arsenal and will “resolve” his contract situation despite not yet extending his deal which expires in 2027.
The Arsenal manager’s last contract extension was a three-year deal signed in September 2024.

Mikel Arteta Arsenal contract expected very shortly
Speaking about the manager’s future, Garlick said everyone at Arsenal remains confident and calm over the situation.
He added that Arteta’s contract should be resolved “very shortly”.
That is Arsenal’s clearest indication yet that an extension is expected rather than the Spaniard approaching the end of his tenure.
Arteta himself has already made his position clear.
Speaking before the Community Shield victory over Manchester City, the 44-year-old said he is extremely happy at Arsenal and wants to remain at the club.
The delay has instead been attributed to other priorities during a busy summer transfer window.
Arsenal have spent heavily strengthening a squad that won the Premier League and reached last season’s Champions League final, with Arteta now attempting to build a side capable of sustaining that success.
His relationship with the hierarchy appears unchanged.
Garlick’s comments are particularly significant because Arteta has reached the final year of his contract, a situation that would normally create increasing uncertainty around one of Europe’s leading managers.
Instead, Arsenal are projecting confidence that an agreement will be reached.
ReadArsenal covered Garlick’s comments on Arsenal’s academy strategy earlier on Wednesday, with the chief executive also addressing the futures of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri.
The Arteta update could ultimately prove the most important.
Arsenal spent years attempting to return to the summit of English football.
After finally achieving it under Arteta, there appears to be little appetite from either side to end the partnership now.
