Newcastle United have been linked with a variety of players over the past few weeks. And one such name is that of Ethan Nwaneri of Arsenal.
The 19-year-old is considered one of the brightest talents that Arsenal have. But it is not easy to get into the Premier League champions’ team these days. Most definitely like it used to be some years back.
As a result, Nwaneri might be looking out for options that will give him more game time. He needs that right now in order to continue his development.
He has already spent time out on loan at Marseille in the past. Could a move to Newcastle United lie in his future? We now know what it will take.
Newcastle United can sign Nwaneri but only on one condition
According to Football Insider, Newcastle United have been given the green light to sign Nwaneri. Discussions had been opened to sign the 19-year-old.
The report goes on to state that Arsenal are prioritising a loan move for Nwaneri ahead of the 2026-27 season, not wanting a permanent transfer at this stage.
So, there appears to be the recognition that Nwaneri needs to be playing regular football at this point in his career. But at the same time, they still see a future for him at the club.
Now, does it make sense for Newcastle United to make a loan move for Nwaneri if a permanent transfer is off the table? Would they be better off looking at someone else?

Under these circumstances, a move for Nwaneri does become a bit less attractive for Newcastle United. Even if he does well, they would only be developing him for a Premier League rival.
At the same time, though, Newcastle United need to recognise their own position right now. They have lost a ton of quality and have not adequately replaced it.
Nwaneri is someone who has already played 51 times and scored 10 goals for Arsenal. So, this is a player who might be ready to start Premier League games on a consistent basis, even if he is 19 years of age.
If Newcastle United are not able to bring in some quality talent in that area of the pitch by the end of the month, even a loan move for Nwaneri has to be considered. But right now, perhaps more focus has to be put on signing someone who is available for a permanent transfer.
