The Denver Nuggets finally pulled the trigger on a sign-and-trade to send Peyton Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a multiple team deal also involving the LA Clippers. But Denver isn't done making moves.
According to reports from NBA insiders, after the trade is complete, the Nuggets are eyeing potentially adding DeMar DeRozan in free agency.

According to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, DeRozan would be Denver's top target in free agency to fill in any gaps left by Peyton Watson. Unfortunately, all the Nuggets have to offer is a veteran minimum contract.
“IF he's willing to take a minimum contract, the Nuggets would welcome DeRozan,” Siegel said. “It appears as if DeRozan is attempting to receive all of or part of a team's mid-level exception.”
DeRozan was waived by the Sacramento Kings last month in July 2026 shortly after free agency opened up. He has reportedly kept his options open and is seeking a new contract worth more than the minimum that the Denver Nuggets currently have to offer.
DeRozan still had a productive season despite the reduction in playing time and usage on a Sacramento Kings team ravaged by injuries and rebuilding. In 77 appearances last season, DeMar DeRozan averaged 18.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.0 steal per game while playing 31.2 minutes a night and shooting 49.7 percent from the field.
As part of the initial trade, Peyton Watson will be signing a four-year, $88 million deal with the Cavs, an annual average worth more than what the Nuggets were offering or willing to pay him.
