Klay Thompson seems at least open about the possibility of walking away from the game for good while wearing a Golden State Warriors uniform.
In a viral video from Thompson’s signature signing event at last month’s Fanatics Fest NYC, a fan suddenly asked the former NBA star about a potential return to the Bay Area.
As such, Thompson’s response to the question is simply interesting.
"Shoot, I don't know," Thompson said while signing a picture. "I got one more year in my deal.
"It would be nice to end it in Golden State."
Will Klay Thompson, Warriors reunite for a last dance?
Klay Thompson returning to Golden State and reuniting with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green for one final run is undoubtedly the dream scenario every Warriors fan hopes to see someday.
Thompson left the Warriors in 2024 by signing a three-year, $50 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. He will be entering the final year of his current deal this upcoming 2026-27 NBA season.
The four-time NBA champion averaged 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 21.7 minutes last season, shooting 38.3% from three in 69 games.
So far, Thompson has been generating plenty of noise around the league, with the Miami Heat described as "desperate" in acquiring him. But recent reports suggest that the Mavs will only entertain a potential split-up with Thompson via a trade.
Thompson made it clear that he would like to play meaningful basketball, be on a contending team, and compete for a potential championship.
With the Warriors entering the twilight of their historic run as one of the NBA’s greatest dynasties, a final chapter with Thompson would certainly be fitting.
