With Liverpool's 2026/27 Premier League season kicking off this Sunday against Newcastle United, Andoni Iraola prepares to lead his side into a new era. While the Reds have enjoyed a measured transfer window - highlighted by the arrival of winger Victor Munoz and centre-back Ronald Araujo to bolster the defence - the closing days could bring significant squad movement.
The signing of the on-loan Barcelona star is the only piece of business the Reds have completed since July 1, with many expecting the club to be more active in the market upon the conclusion of the World Cup last month.
The immediate focus seems to be on making both squad space and financial headroom for potential last-minute additions. Two first-team stars could be heading for the exit door as we look at the latest headlines.
Gakpo's Spurs move
Cody Gakpo has been linked with a switch to Tottenham throughout much of the summer. However, a transaction to offload the Dutchman is said to be a non-starter unless the Reds can bring in two attacking players.
Certain reports have valued Gakpo at £70million, with Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi eager to strengthen his left-wing alternatives with the 27-year-old's capture. Despite recent speculation questioning whether such a transfer could be concluded late in the window, Fabrizio Romano has maintained that the prospective deal remains highly achievable.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano stated that Spurs continue in discussions for the winger and that agreeing personal terms wouldn't pose a problem, as Gakpo is receptive to the move.
Jones agreement gets closer
Curtis Jones' 16-year association with Liverpool could be nearing its end. The club have resumed talks with Inter over the sale of the midfielder.

The Serie A champions reached out to the Reds to signal their intention to offer £30m for the midfielder. Those talks advanced on Wednesday, with a deal appearing closer. Speculation linking the player with the Italian club first surfaced on deadline day back in January of this year.
Inter rekindled their pursuit of the 25-year-old this summer, having previously been unable to reach an agreement on a fee with Liverpool. The Italian giants saw two offers knocked back for the England international, the most recent being a £21.7m bid in June.
Should Jones depart Merseyside, he would leave having made 228 appearances for the Reds, contributing 22 goals and 25 assists. He has claimed six major honours at the club during his time there, among them two Premier League titles.
