Liverpool are said to have held “intense” talks with Premier League rivals Arsenal over the signing of winger Ethan Nwaneri in the summer transfer window.
Frustration is growing among Reds supporters over the lack of transfer activity in attack, with Andoni Iraola’s options feeling worryingly limited going into the new season.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola continues to be the leading wide target for Liverpool this month, with former left-back Stephen Warnock discussing the price tag and saying the move is close:
“You’re paying for the potential as well. So I get that. £170 million, nowhere near. You don’t touch it for that price. I think around £100-110 million, it’s still ludicrous in terms of fees these days but in terms of the way the market has moved, it looks to be around that. Not being involved for the French Cup, it looks like it’s imminent.”
Now, a respected source on X has claimed that Liverpool are looking to potentially strike a deal with Arsenal for highly-rated attacking Nwaneri, who can leave the Emirates this summer:
“London sources confirm: LFC and Arsenal were locked in intense, high-level talks ALL DAY today. The subject was Ethan Nwaneri. Arsenal are looking to sell the player this summer.”
Is Ethan Nwaneri a no-brainer for Liverpool?
This is an intriguing update, not least because Arsenal may be willing to sell a prized asset to one of their biggest rivals – someone who Chris Sutton has lauded in the past:
“Ethan Nwaneri, as well, his performance again. Young players at times can come into the team and hit the ground running and then take a dip, but he looks phenomenal.”
Nwaneri is a huge talent who has unfortunately been pushed down the pecking order at Arsenal, with more seasoned players ahead of him, as well as possibly teenage prodigy Max Dowman.
There is a reason why the Gunners are reportedly willing to sell, which Liverpool would have to consider, but the Englishman is still only 19 and could have a huge future ahead of him.
It could be worth Iraola taking a punt on him as a strong squad option, with the youngster capable of excelling on the right wing and as a No.10.
