Anthony Gordon nightmare - Watch as former Newcastle United man misses penalty in first…

Anthony Gordon missed a penalty in his first game for Barcelona at the Camp Nou last night.

Newcastle United acted quickly to sell the winger once the Premier League season ended. Gordon starred for England at the World Cup and made his Barca debut in Switzerland at the weekend.

Just four days before the La Liga campaign kicks off, the former Toon ace experienced the Camp Nou as a home player against Egyptian outfit Al-Ahly. In a pre-match message to Barcelona fans, Gordon declared his excitement while insisting Hansi Flick’s side are prepared for the season ahead.

‘I can’t wait’ - Anthony Gordon

“I can't wait, I'm so excited to see the stadium, to wear the Barca kit in the stadium… spend time with fans (and) see them for the first time, hopefully score a goal, win a game, everything,” he said. “When you play for Barcelona we only focus on us and what we can do, the way we want to play, we have a style that never changes.

“So we just try and win this way and in the best way possible. Of course, I think we work really hard every day to be ready. Players are coming in at different stages, but it's no problem. Everyone is fit, everyone is a top player, so we know what it takes to be ready for the first game - and we will be.”

However, in a horror first appearance on home soil, Gordon squandered a stoppage-time spot-kick to put Barcelona 3-1 ahead. He started the game as a substitute before coming on at half-time.

Flick used Gordon as a false No.9 - a position that Eddie Howe turned to at the back end of last season. Ironically, the former Newcastle wideman played there in the Champions League against Barcelona in March.

Gordon will be aiming to bury his penalty blues ahead of the La Liga opener. The Catalans travel to Elche on Sunday as they aim to win a third consecutive title.
