Liverpool fans have been left gutted by a shock exit
Liverpool fans have been left gutted after Sofie Lundgaard completed a surprise move to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Frauen-Bundesliga.
The 24-year-old midfielder completed her permanent move for an undisclosed fee after an injury-hit spell at Liverpool. Lundgaard suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and a fractured ankle during her three-and-a-half years at the club, limiting her to only 42 appearances for the Reds.
However, fans have been left disappointed that the popular star has left the club. Lundgaard showed how much playing for Liverpool meant in the emotional message she penned upon her exit.
Posting to her 134,000 followers on Instagram, Lundgaard wrote: “Liverpool, my home away from home for the last 3.5 years. I never thought saying goodbye would be this hard, but I’m leaving with more than I ever could have imagined.
“I’ve created memories I’ll carry with me forever, but most importantly, friendships for life. I’ll always be so thankful for that. Wearing the Liverpool badge has been a dream come true – something I’ll forever be proud of!
“Playing in front of all the fans has been so special. All the support has meant more than you know, and I will now be one of you too! Thank you Reds. Sof x.”
Fans took to the comments section to send their best wishes to the midfielder, with one saying: “I'm so sorry to see you go, you've been one of my favourites to pull on the red shirt. You'll be so very missed and I wish you nothing but the absolute best on your next adventure.”
A second added: “Ah nooooo!! Gutted you're leaving Sophiie! Wishing you all the best in the future.” While a third wrote: “Miss you already! But can’t wait to see you smash.”
Another penned: “Forever one of us Sof. Thank you for giving everything in a Red Shirt. Your strength and determination throughout the lows is an example to us all. You'll be so missed. Go fly.” As a fifth simply said: “This one hurts.”
Lundgaard’s Instagram feed has changed since her switch with snaps and videos of her being announced and signing her Frankfurt contracts being shared.
