Inter Milan have made decisive progress for Liverpool’s Curtis Jones and only the final steps of the deal are missing.
Since late January, Sport Witness have constantly covered their interest in the player. Inter had been in the picture since they came close to signing him in the winter market. Earlier this summer, they made an initial offer.
Despite Liverpool rejecting it, Inter stayed in the mix and there has been a key breakthrough.
More is emerging in Italy about this and the final details are being sorted out before a medical.
Resale fee could be included
Today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport adds significant details of the transfer, clarifying that all isn’t done yet. There is a verbal agreement between the two clubs over a move worth €30m plus bonuses of €5m.
Soon, Inter will send a formal, written offer to Liverpool and this would then have to be accepted by the Reds. There is a chance the Nerazzurri could include a resale percentage to convince the Merseyside club.
Once Liverpool give their final approval, Jones will fly to Italy to undergo a medical.
He is expected to sign a five-year deal worth €4m per season, having pushed for this transfer for many months. He hasn’t changed his mind since Inter first came calling in January and has rejected other clubs.
The newspaper note that Jones missed Liverpool’s last two friendlies citing a ‘classic diplomatic injury’. This is to suggest he didn’t want to risk himself, when Inter were waiting to sign him.
