Manchester City have reportedly seen an enquiry for Adam Wharton rebuffed by Crystal Palace.
The former Blackburn Rovers academy graduate has attracted interest from the Premier League’s biggest clubs this summer and, since leaving Ewood Park, has established himself as one of Europe’s brightest prospects.
Man City are keen to strengthen their midfield department despite the £116million acquisition of Elliot Anderson. Enzo Maresca's side have sold Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders whilst Bernardo Silva joined Real Madrid at the end of his contract.
Any potential move would have implications for Blackburn Rovers, who inserted a clause giving them 15 per cent of any profit from the club-record deal that took Wharton to Selhurst Park in January 2024.
Considering the cost of Premier League midfielders this summer, any deal would likely cost between £70-100m. That could, in theory, net Rovers upwards of £7.5m, which would be huge for the club.
However, The Athletic's David Ornstein reports that Crystal Palace have turned down the enquiry. It's claimed that Wharton is 'not available this summer' and Palace have no intention of selling him before the September 1 deadline.
Wharton’s contract runs until 2029, with three years remaining, and he is unlikely to force a move but would relish the chance to test himself at the highest level.
