The Blues have been linked with the highly-rated 22-year-old as John Mousinho looks to bolster his options on the left flank following injuries to Connor Ogilvie and Jacob Farrell.
Pompey aren’t alone in their apparent interest in the Anfield youth product, with Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers also believed to be on the trail.

However, any imminent departure from Merseyside is on hold as Liverpool look set to delay any potential loan exit for Chambers until the final knockings of the transfer window.
Following a lack of defensive signings and ongoing injury issues in Andoni Iraola’s backline, the Reds will not sanction any exit for the full-back for the time being, which will likely see Zak Swanson continue at left-back in the meantime for Pompey.
Indeed, Chambers remains a part of Liverpool’s first-team plans ahead of this Sunday’s Premier League opener against Newcastle United, having impressed in his five appearances during pre-season.
And his impact was noticed by Reds fans, who are adamant Iraola’s side should keep the left-back in their ranks for the new season, despite growing interest from the Championship.
In fact, the Anfield faithful would be open to selling fellow full-back Kostas Tsimikas before the window’s climax instead of sanctioning a temporary exit for the reported Pompey target.
Here’s what Liverpool fans have been saying about Chambers’ future on social media.

Liverpool verdict on future of reported Pompey target
@28ntaylo03: Keep him as cover for left back , he could move ahead of Kostas in the pecking order. I think Kostas needs a little nudge out of the door personally. Then come January he may want to leave.
@olav_lfc: Keep him as left back cover.
@MUTWARANGABO: Keep, he has shown his capacities during this pre-season.
@JayFKay91: Keep, see if they want Tsimikas.
@Fari_Siregar: Keep him. I think he can developed to be a better defender.
@AvantGardai: Get rid of Tsimikas and keep him. Of all positions to safely make use of an academy kid backup left back is it.
@TheFheasant: Sell Tsimikas if that’s the case.

@HendrickD82: Keep and sell Tsimikas for whatever we can get.
@ashthomas__: Keep! He can play LB/CB and he’s very good at both, and we need plenty of talent around that area!
@Geddystan: He is way better than Tsimikas at left-back.
@mersey_red_side: If you're not gonna reinforce the squad, I'm not letting any of the youngsters go out on loan.
@kieranwilcock96: Luke Chambers deserves a chance.
@JustinC94019825: I would keep him and get Tsimikas out of there and get some kind of fee back for him.
@Didi_iz1: Liverpool should retain Luke Chambers, I'm still saying this.
@are_you_el_kay: Don't mind this at all, give him Tsimikas' minutes and sell Tsimikas, simple.
