Inter Milan has promised a 10 percent sell-on clause to Liverpool as part of its offer for Curtis Jones after the two sides agreed on a fee for the Reds midfielder this week.

Jones, 25, the last remaining Scouser in the Liverpool side, is all but set to complete a switch to the Serie A champions following months of interest from the Italian giants, in a deal believed to be worth $40.9 milliion.

Despite reported interest from Premier League duo Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, it is Inter which Jones will be pulling on the shirt for this season, following in the footsteps of fellow Englishmen John Stones and Djed Spence in making the move to the San Siro this summer.

After a deal was agreed late on Wednesday, Jones was given permission to travel to Milan for a medical, as he prepares to bring an end to his 16-year association with Liverpool, having joined the club at the age of nine.

While the player was never forced out the door by the Reds, the club has ultimately decided to cash in on its academy prospect before his contract expires in less than 12 months.

Liverpool will at least benefit from any future sale of Jones, after Give Me Sport's Ben Jacobs reported that Inter's offer also includes a 10 percent sell-on for Andoni Iraola's side.

Having failed to consistently hold down a starting position in Liverpool's midfield since his breakthrough into the first team in 2019, Jones has ultimately decided that a fresh challenge and more game time are what he wants.

That's despite new head coach Iraola saying that he wanted Jones, who trained with his Liverpool teammates as recently as Wednesday, to stay with his boyhood club and sign a new contract last month.

Last season under Arne Slot, Jones started only 16 Premier League games, with several of those appearances coming as a makeshift right-back amid Liverpool's injury woes.

It is not yet clear whether the Reds are planning to replace Jones with a more experienced midfielder or give their latest academy star, 19-year-old Trey Nyoni, the opportunity of more minutes following an impressive pre-season campaign.

Aside from Jones, Liverpool's current senior midfield options include Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliott, who spent last season out on loan at Aston Villa.

Should the Reds opt to enter the transfer market for a replacement, then several options could include Bournemouth duo Alex Scott and Tyler Adams, who Iraola knows well, and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton.

The latter is a long-term target of Liverpool's, and he recently sent Reds fans into a frenzy after footage emerged of him securing a signed Steven Gerrard shirt from Liverpool's 2005 Champions League triumph.
