Liverpool stars Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez have been gearing up for their Premier League opener against Newcastle by spending time with former Reds skipper Steven Gerrard.
Andoni Iraiola's players kick off their 2026/27 campaign on Sunday against the Magpies at St. James' Park, in a clash that will see the two sides come together to pay their respects to the late legendary Kevin Keegan, who played for both.
Szoboszlai and Kerkez, who are expected to be a huge part of Iraiola's plans during the Spaniard's inaugural season on Merseyside, appear to be in excellent spirits ahead of Sunday's opener, with the former posting a photo of the pair on social media, alongside Gerrard, on a padel court.

"Still comparing bangers, just on a different court," wrote Szoboszlai on X.
Fans were quick to chime in on the interaction between the trio. One fan replied to the post, "legend meets legend. #8 meets #8" referencing Gerrard and Szoboszlai's wearing of the No. 8.
"He's [Gerrard] got about a 100 more bangers lad. You have some catching up to do," replied a second.
A third joked: "You've scored nowhere near as many bangers for Liverpool as that club legend. More work to be done for you before you compare anything with Stevie G, sunshine!"

A fourth said: "Take inspiration and lead us Dom Lad."
And a fifth commented: "Somehow, I knew Szobo has been taking classes from the general himself. I just couldn’t prove it!"
Gerrard has previously spoken glowingly about Szoboszlai, who was named Liverpool's men's player of the season last term in what was a disappointing campaign for the Reds.
"I like his mentality. He's evolved and he's grown a lot since he's become a Liverpool player," Gerrard told TNT Sports earlier this year. "We [Liverpool] obviously signed a big talent. He's in the prime years of his career. I think Liverpool are going to see the best of him. I hope he stays around for a long time because I think there's a potential captain in there."

Gerrard added: "He's definitely a team player. I still think there's another level to him as well. I can see him potentially getting more goals, if he can have a consistent run in that 8/10 position.
"He's always in and around the box. His ball striking is phenomenal. His timing and his technique and he hits it with so much venom. The balls are getting lighter and lighter. He must be an absolute nightmare for the goalkeeper.

“People are going away now talking about his performance because he's exciting and he's entertaining, but he's in his proper position. Keep him in his proper position. Let him flourish."
