Everton confident they can sign PL striker for £10m cheaper than expected - report

Liam Delap in pre-season action for Chelsea

Liam Delap in pre-season action for Chelsea

Everton continue to be linked with a move for Chelsea striker Liam Delap, and could now potentially land him for cheaper than expected.

The Toffees wanted the former Ipswich Town attacker last summer and still hold an interest in him despite missing out on him to the London side.

At Stamford Bridge, the 23-year-old has struggled to make a mark and could be on his way out after just one season.

David Moyes could bring Delap to Hill Dickinson Stadium this transfer window, but it remains to be seen whether they can come to an agreement with Chelsea.

The West London club paid the Englishman's £30million release clause a year back.

It looks like the five-time Premier League champions have no intention of losing money on the centre-forward.

How much Everton could be willing to pay for Liam Delap transfer

Chelsea want £50m for Delap, which has made a possible deal difficult for the Toffees.

The London club seem adamant about their asking price despite the striker's failure to live up to expectations in SW6.

According to talkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea continue to maintain their valuation of Delap amid interest from the Merseyside outfit, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.

However, there's a belief among those in pursuit that a deal at Stamford Bridge for the striker could be agreed for £40m.

talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has also suggested that the ex-Ipswich forward's situation will be one to keep an eye on in the final days of the transfer window.

What Liam Delap transfer will mean for David Moyes' squad

Moyes seems keen to bring Delap to Everton amid a lack of depth up front.

Thierno Barry and Beto are the two natural number nine options at the Scottish manager's disposal.

It's safe to say that the 63-year-old head coach was let down by his two strikers, who were inconsistent last season.

Barry has shown promise in pre-season, but it remains to be seen how he will perform once the new season starts.

A lack of squad depth was arguably one reason for the Merseyside outfit's underwhelming end to the 2025-26 campaign.

Delap's arrival would give Moyes a much-needed option in the attack as he looks for a reliable goalscorer in L3.
