Chelsea have gotten Joao Pedro to sign a new deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032. The club has reportedly inserted a clause that lets them prolong it for two more years and extend their hold over their most coveted forward.
The Brazilian striker has seen improved remuneration along with other terms of the contract. The Blues have used this to acknowledge how indispensable Joao Pedro has become at Stamford Bridge over the last season.
His performances were impressive enough to attract the attention of other juggernauts in European football. With Chelsea failing to make Europe, there were reports that top clubs were monitoring his situation at the Bridge.
Some reports claimed that Barcelona and Arsenal had signalled their willingness to pay upwards of €100 million for Joao Pedro. Chelsea have had to repel these overtures, but this new deal with the striker has closed the door with firmness.
The rationale behind the Blues’ decision to put him on a longer contract is simple. After signing from Brighton in 2025, the forward scored 23 goals and provided nine assists in 53 appearances. He was the shining light during a season where the Blues fell short and finished in 10th place.
In pre-season, he has already scored seven goals in five games, including a nine-minute hat-trick against Western Sydney. He also enjoyed braces against AC Milan and Real Sociedad. It is little surprise that he has quickly become the cornerstone of Chelsea’s project at Stamford Bridge.
Xabi Alonso Speaks About Joao Pedro
Xabi Alonso might have inherited a fractured project upon his appointment in West London. That hasn’t kept him from sharing his delight in Joao Pedro’s quality and performances.
The Spanish manager has been tasked with resurrecting the London giants, who have been marooned in mid-table mediocrity. To do that, he would need the Brazilian striker at the forefront of his tactics. Speaking to the press while in Australia, Alonso said:
“He’s very hungry – Joao is really, really determined to have a great season. He wants to – after a great last year, where he scored many goals – I think that he wants to keep scoring more and more.
“But we need to help him, as on his own it’s not possible. He will have the players around him and they need to have this hunger to score as well. It’s not just about the striker, but every time that we win and our striker scores, I am happy.”
It is worth noting that, despite Joao Pedro’s performances last season, he failed to make it into the Brazil World Cup squad. He has channelled that disappointment into his training sessions, and he looks set to become one of the most exciting players in the Premier League this season.
