Predicted Arsenal Lineup vs Coventry City: Tzolis Starts, Bruno to Marshal Midfield
Defending champions Arsenal get the 2026/27 Premier League season up and running under the Friday night lights in North London as they host newly-promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have beefed up their squad with four summer signings, including turning Piero Hincapie’s loan into a permanent deal. They have spent £75m to sign central midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, whilst adding winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has arrived on a free transfer from Leeds United to understudy David Raya.
The North Londoners warmed up for the new season by smashing Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield at the weekend. It underlined a dominant display from Arsenal as they fine-tuned their preparations for their title defence.
Arsenal Team News
Arsenal will enter the new season without the services of two key defenders, William Saliba and Jurrien Timber. The duo will be out for the first few weeks, or even months, of the campaign as they recover from injuries.
Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Martin Zubimendi all sat out pre-season fixtures due to World Cup commitments, but the trio were involved in the Community Shield against Manchester City.

Goalkeeper
David Raya kept a clean sheet in the Community Shield at the weekend, which should automatically boost his confidence levels heading into the new Premier League campaign. He is a certain starter in goal.

Defence
The temptation for Mikel Arteta could be to stick with nearly the same lineup that destroyed Manchester City, even with big stars available again. This means Gabriel Magalhaes is expected to partner Cristhian Mosquera in central defence, with Ben White and Riccardo Calafiori operating as the full-backs.
The entire backline will look to tame the Coventry City forwards and keep a clean sheet in the curtain-raiser. Piero Hincapie could come off the bench if required.
Midfield
The trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Martin Odegaard were brilliant in the Community Shield. With Lewis-Skelly sitting in front of the back four, Odegaard and Bruno ran the show in midfield and split open Man City’s defence several times with incisive passes.
Arteta is expected to stick with the trio in the middle of the park. Rice, Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze will get opportunities to impress later in the game.
Attack
Tzolis has been a breath of fresh air for the Gunners with his pace, directness and flair. The Greek star announced himself in front of the Arsenal supporters in Cardiff with a pair of assists against Manchester City, and he appears a nailed-on starter on the left wing in the Arsenal lineup. Noni Madueke should operate from the other flank, with Saka expected to get minutes off the bench.
Kai Havertz scored a header against Man City to stake his claim for a starting role on Friday evening. Viktor Gyokeres and Mikel Merino will be options to bring on if Arsenal need a goal.
