Atletico Madrid have stepped up their pursuit of Nicolas Jackson, with sporting director Mateu Alemany travelling to London as the Spanish club attempt to secure a deal for Chelsea’s £65million-rated striker.
Jackson was already on Atletico’s shortlist, but the situation has now moved significantly beyond initial interest.
Marca reports that Alemany travelled from Madrid to London on Thursday as Atletico attempt to advance the signing.
The Spanish club are pursuing a loan, while Chelsea would prefer to secure a permanent transfer for Jackson before the window closes.

Atletico’s move represents clear progression from earlier in the week.
ReadChelsea reported on Tuesday that Diego Simeone’s side were considering Jackson as they assessed their attacking options.
At that stage, there were no advanced negotiations.
AS now reports that Jackson has gained importance as an Atletico target and that a loan is being studied, although Chelsea continue to wait for permanent offers.
The Blues are understood to value the Senegal international at around £65m.
Atletico’s ability to complete a deal could depend on their own outgoing business, with Alexander Sorloth attracting interest and currently sidelined by injury.
Chelsea also have another serious option for Jackson.
ReadChelsea reported on Thursday that Napoli had made contact over the striker, although the Serie A club need to make room in their attacking department before advancing.
Jackson’s position at Stamford Bridge is already uncertain.
He has been working outside Xabi Alonso’s main training cohort, while Joao Pedro has been handed Chelsea’s No.9 shirt ahead of the new Premier League season.
Atletico’s preference for a temporary move does not currently match Chelsea’s desire for a permanent sale.
Alemany’s trip to London, however, provides the clearest indication yet that the Spanish club are attempting to turn their long-standing interest into a deal.
