Following your club home and away is one of the great traditions of English football, but it is becoming an increasingly expensive commitment. Travel costs mount quickly when fans cross the country 19 times in a Premier League season, especially for clubs at the geographical extremes. New research from FootballGroundGuide calculates the full cost of attending every away match in 2026/27 using the fixed £30 away ticket price plus estimated travel (car, train or supporters’ coach).
Sunderland supporters face the biggest bill at £3,941.61. Bournemouth are close behind at £3,853.61, with Newcastle third on £3,606.82. Four of the five most expensive clubs sit outside the traditional footballing heartlands of the Midlands and North West. At the other end, Crystal Palace are the cheapest at £2,273.66, narrowly ahead of Brentford and Tottenham. London clubs benefit from shorter journeys and the capital’s rail network. Manchester United rank only 13th and Liverpool 10th — well clear of the top of the list.

South-coast supporters are not far behind. Long journeys from Bournemouth push travel costs to £3,283.61, making the Cherries the second-most expensive club to follow away.
