Granit Xhaka was courted by Chelsea earlier this summer but opted to stay at Sunderland
Régis Le Bris says Granit Xhaka's determination to make history on Wearside has been evident since his return from World Cup duty with Switzerland.
Xhaka's future on Wearside had been thrown into doubt earlier this summer when Xabi Alonso's Chelsea made a move for his signature, with the midfielder understood to be initially keen on the transfer. However, Sunderland rebuffed an £8 million bid and after talks with the club, Xhaka reaffirmed his commitment to the project.
Le Bris says Xhaka's love for Sunderland is obvious and so too is his desire to make history this season.
"About [what happened] behind the scenes, nothing [to say]," Le Bris said.
"About the trust, the confidence and the connection with the club, it's really clear Granit loves this club. He loves this group, loves to be a part of this journey. After one season and you still have a small window around the World Cup to think about different things, but quickly he switched on: This is Sunderland I want to go here, I want to stay here, I want to achieve something even bigger next season."

Le Bris says he and his side are relishing the prospect of the historic season ahead as they prepare for their opening game against Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.
"We are going into one of the most exciting seasons for Sunderland in 52 years," he said.
"Back in Europe, still competing in the Premier League, so it's going to be challenging. Big boost for the club, I think the lads last season earned it, and so just happy to restart to go into this season."
