Man City are weighing up a move for Roma midfielder Manu Kone, according to reports.
The Daily Mail claim that the France international is on a “list” of targets that Enzo Maresca’s side could sign ahead of the transfer deadline.
Following the departures of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders, Director of Football Hugo Viana has been tasked with adding more depth in the middle of the park.
Ayyoub Bouaddi‘s move from Lille is still expected to be finalised, but it looks like more than one midfielder could arrive before September 1st.
Kone has been on the radar of other Premier League clubs
Man Utd had talks with Kone’s agent last month, but the Red Devils have subsequently turned their attention towards Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.
Chelsea have also reportedly considered a move for the 25-year-old, but it looks like they are more interested in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott.
Roma are thought to be willing to listen to offers for Kone, with the Serie A champions having slapped a £51m asking price on the player. That is not a figure that would deter City, who have already raised £117m from the sales of Rodri and Reijnders.

Man City have looked at other midfielders
Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez remains a key target. Maresca is said to be very keen on being reunited with the Argentinian international, having worked with him for 18 months at Stamford Bridge. However, his £120m asking price is a big stumbling block.
An enquiry was also lodged for Adam Wharton, but Crystal Palace have made it clear that the midfielder is not for sale. In that context, you can understand why Kone is being considered as a potential fallback option.
