Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly pushing for a move to Barcelona, with claims in Spain suggesting the Sweden international is “offering himself” to the Catalan giants on a daily basis.
The 28-year-old only joined Arsenal from Sporting CP last summer in a high-profile transfer, but his future at the Emirates has suddenly become a major talking point with the summer transfer window approaching its conclusion.
According to COPE journalist Victor Navarro, Gyokeres is actively making Barcelona aware of his desire to join the club. The report comes as Barcelona continue searching for attacking reinforcements and reassess their options after their pursuit of other targets encountered difficulties.
Barcelona’s interest in a new striker has increased following changes to their attacking options, with Robert Lewandowski having departed and Ferran Torres reportedly moving to Paris Saint-Germain. Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez had been considered among their preferred solutions, but Barcelona have reportedly been unable to make progress on that deal.
Lautaro Martinez is now said to be Barcelona’s leading target, while Gyokeres has emerged as another potential option. Navarro’s report claims the Arsenal forward’s representatives are attempting to keep the possibility of a move alive.
The situation would represent a remarkable turnaround for Gyokeres, who arrived in north London just 12 months ago and enjoyed a productive debut campaign.
Reports have indicated that the Swedish striker scored 21 goals across all competitions during his first season with ARSENAL, including 14 Premier League goals. His pace, physical strength and ability to attack space made him an important part of Mikel Arteta’s attacking plans.
However, claims that he is now actively seeking a move have inevitably raised questions about his relationship with Arsenal and whether the club would consider allowing him to leave.
At present, there appears to be little evidence that Arsenal are actively negotiating a sale. Reports have suggested there has been no contact between Arsenal and Barcelona over a potential transfer, meaning any move remains speculative at this stage.
ARSENAL would also face the difficult task of replacing Gyokeres if he were to depart. The Gunners have already been linked with Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, potentially adding another layer to the developing situation.
For Barcelona, Gyokeres could represent an attractive alternative if their preferred targets prove impossible to sign. For Arsenal, however, losing a striker they signed only last summer would create a major headache
