**Chelsea** star **Joao Pedro** has put pen to paper on a new and improved deal until 2032, with an option to extend beyond then. This aligns with Chelsea’s recent strategy of rewarding their top players with improved deals, with **Cole Palmer** and **Moises Caicedo** both having extended their deals since originally signing until 2033, despite having many years left on their previous deals at the time of renewal.
The contract renewal comes after a summer of speculation regarding **Barcelona’s** interest in the Brazilian striker, whom Chelsea signed for €63.7 million and is now worth €80 million according to Transfermarkt.
The rise in market value follows a season in which the Brazilian star won Chelsea’s men’s player of the season with over 60% of the fan vote.
In addition to an improved deal, the 24-year-old has just been given the number 9 shirt ahead of the 26/27 campaign, taking it from teammate **Liam Delap**, a player Chelsea are currently seeking to offload following his disappointing opening season at Chelsea.

Pedro started his Chelsea career with a bang, scoring a brace on his first start against his former club, Fluminense, and a goal in the final of the Club World Cup against **Paris Saint-Germain**, securing his first piece of major silverware as a player and ending the tournament on three goals in three games. Following the Club World Cup, the striker netted 20 goals and assisted nine throughout the 2025/26 campaign.
In the Premier League alone, Joao Pedro scored 15 goals from 14.96 non-penalty XG (FOTMOB), finishing joint fifth in the golden boot race, tied with **Morgan Gibbs-White** of **Nottingham Forest**. He was a bright light in an otherwise disappointing season for the Blues in which the squad finished outside of the European places and had 3 separate head coaches: **Enzo Maresca, Liam Rosenior** and interim **Callum McFarlane**, with much of the downturn in Chelsea’s form credited to Maresca’s dramatic exit.
Pre-season

The striker has continued his stellar form, scoring the most goals of any Premier League player in pre-season, netting seven in total, including a sub-10-minute hat-trick in Australia against **Western Sydney Wanderers**, a brace against **AC Milan**, and an additional brace against **Real Sociedad** at **Stamford Bridge**. Chelsea only won pre-season matches in which Pedro scored.
Chelsea enter the 26/27 season with no European football, and Pedro enters it without making Brazil's World Cup squad. He should be well-rested with something to prove; hopefully he can build on an already bright start to his Chelsea career and fight off the 'number nine curse '.
