Update on Zian Flemming's Burnley future amid Everton and Lille links

Nicky Hayen provides latest update on Zian Flemming’s future

Speculation surrounding Zian Flemming’s Burnley future only intensified last weekend when the in-demand striker began the league campaign in sparking form.

The Dutchman struck twice as the Clarets came from two goals down to deservedly draw 2-2 in their first Championship fixture of the season.

Everton boss David Moyes watched on from the Bob Lord Stand, while French side Lille have since been linked with his services.

Providing a fresh update on Flemming’s future on Friday afternoon, ahead of Sunday’s trip to West Brom, Burnley boss Nicky Hayen said: “My feeling will always say that he has to stay.

“He showed the last two games actually how important he is for the group. You saw he scores already two times, but how many chances does he get also in the game? So the way we want to play suits him really, really well.

“But I know how the transfer window goes and when there's a club who is interested and they do an offer, you know there's always a chance that the player can leave.

“This is now the conversation that we have between the management, but also the technical staff, the player and other clubs, what is the best solution.

“Of course, Zian has a certain value for the team, but also financial, so I think everything has to be there for making a transfer.”

When asked if Flemming wants to stay at Turf Moor or has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League, Hayen added: “Who doesn't have the ambition to play in the Premier League? I think everyone does, also Zian.

“But I already had good conversations with him and I already had this conversation before the season and Zian is a player who is here 100 per cent and that's the most important.

“If there will be an offer, then he will consider it because it still is ambition. But I think you saw him last Sunday also, when there's no offer, when there's nothing, Zian will play with his big heart for the club and will score his goals.”

Despite the intense speculation surrounding Flemming, Hayen revealed there’s been no firm proposals sent Burnley’s way as of yet - although the transfer window doesn’t close until September 1.

“I don't think so,” he said, when asked if there’s been any concrete bids.

“I have to ask the management. If only one is really, really there then they would inform me, so at the moment, it's not the case.”
