Birmingham City and Stoke City are hoping to make strides up the Championship table this season, and have made some new first-team recruits to help them do so. However, BCFC and the Potters are not forgetting about deals for potential stars of the future either.
A report from Bristol Live has named the Championship pair among the admirers of Bristol Rovers starlet Ollie Dewsbury. The 18-year-old is back with the Gas after a short trial stint with Everton, who passed up on the chance to sign the Wales youth international.

Although the Blues and Stoke are eyeing a permanent move for Dewsbury, there is a chance he remains with Rovers. If that proves to be the case, he could go on loan to a National League side after the September 1st deadline.

Dewsbury is very much in the formative years of his career. But, at just 18, he has already gained a decent amount of senior exposure, even if it is at a lower level.
The Newport-born prospect has come all the way through the Bristol Rovers academy ranks and spent spells out on loan with Yate Town, Taunton Town and Weston-Super-Mare, playing 18 National League South games for the latter and scoring three times.
Alongside 22 senior appearances for the Gas, it is clear to see his existing talent and potential. As such, it is little wonder clubs like Birmingham City and Stoke City are keen, and Dewsbury’s Everton trial shows clubs at a higher level have already taken notice.
Able to play on the wing or at striker, Dewsbury will hope to force his way into Steve Evans’ plans.
The Verdict: Bristol Rovers will be in no rush over Ollie Dewsbury exit decision
As BCFC and Stoke City lurk, Bristol Rovers will be relaxed over Dewsbury’s fate.
Of course, the hope is that he can stay the course and cement himself in the senior side at the Memorial Stadium. Then, when he has some experience and perhaps some League Two goals and assists under his belt, he can yield a big profit for the club.
Despite that, they will not want to stand in Dewsbury’s way if the chance arises to make a big jump up the leagues. The Everton trial showed this, and that might encourage Birmingham City and co as they show interest in the Welsh prospect.
Dewsbury is still at such an early stage in his career though. Careful decisions over his development and path will be made, both by him, his family and Bristol Rovers.
