Chelsea have officially confirmed that Shakhtar Donetsk will play their 2026/27 Champions League home matches at Stamford Bridge, subject to regulatory approval.
The Ukrainian champions had spent weeks considering several possible London venues after once again needing a temporary home for their European campaign.
Stamford Bridge has now been selected.
Chelsea confirmed the agreement on Friday, meaning Champions League football will return to SW6 this season despite Xabi Alonso’s side failing to qualify for European competition.
Shakhtar will use the stadium for their four home fixtures in the Champions League league phase.
Subject to regulatory approvals, FC Shakhtar will play their home matches of the UEFA Champions League league phase at Stamford Bridge for the 2026/27 season.

Shakhtar Stamford Bridge decision ends weeks of talks
The official announcement represents significant progression from the position earlier this summer.
ReadChelsea reported in July that Shakhtar had narrowed their search to Stamford Bridge and Fulham’s Craven Cottage, with Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium also previously considered.
At that stage, Chelsea had not confirmed negotiations and no final decision had been made.
The clubs have now reached an arrangement, with Chelsea saying they will work closely with Shakhtar over the coming weeks to ensure the Champions League matchdays operate safely and smoothly.
Shakhtar described Stamford Bridge as one of world football’s most famous stadiums and believe playing in London will provide a memorable opportunity for Ukrainian and English supporters.
The arrangement also gives Chelsea a chance to make greater use of Stamford Bridge during a season without men’s European football.
It will contribute to an unusually busy calendar at the stadium.
ReadChelsea has already covered how Chelsea Women will play all 13 of their WSL home fixtures at Stamford Bridge this season, while Alonso’s side continue their Premier League and domestic cup schedule.
Shakhtar have previously staged European home matches in cities including Hamburg and Warsaw.
London will now become their latest temporary Champions League home.
Chelsea may not have qualified for Europe themselves, but the Champions League anthem will still be heard at Stamford Bridge in 2026/27.
