It’s been a summer of serious upheaval at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah left for Trabzonspor, Andy Robertson moved to Tottenham, and Ibrahima Konate completed a switch to Real Madrid, three departures that would define most clubs’ transfer windows on their own.

Liverpool have spent the past two months reshaping large parts of the squad Arne Slot inherited, and the churn hasn’t stopped at the first team.
Burnley have now been among the clubs benefiting from it.
The Clarets have signed defender Emmanuel Airoboma on a permanent deal after his release from Liverpool this summer.
Airoboma, 19, joined the Reds’ academy at Under-12 level and spent close to seven years working through the ranks, progressing from the U18s to Rob Page’s U21 group before his release was confirmed as part of the club’s wider academy restructuring.
He’s comfortable at centre-back and can also cover right-back, the kind of positional flexibility that made him a regular fixture for Liverpool’s Premier League 2 side over the past year.
His move to Turf Moor isn’t happening in isolation.
Airoboma is one of several Liverpool graduates who’ve found new clubs after being let go this summer.
Oakley Cannonier has joined Singapore’s Hougang United, DJ Bernard has moved to Middlesbrough, and Kareem Ahmed has also secured a fresh start elsewhere.
For a group who came through the ranks together, watching former teammates land at new clubs within weeks of each other says something about how thorough Liverpool’s academy cull has actually been this summer.
For Burnley, it’s a low-risk pickup with a defender who has genuine pedigree behind him, even if senior football is still a step he’s yet to take.
The club’s recent recruitment has leaned into exactly this kind of signing: promising academy products from bigger clubs who didn’t get a route to the first team but still have the attributes to develop.
Airoboma will now be looking to force his way into Scott Parker’s plans, or at minimum establish himself in Burnley’s development squad as a platform for regular senior football, something that had started to look unlikely the longer he stayed on Merseyside without a clear pathway opening up.
Whether he becomes a first-team option this season or next remains to be seen.
But for a player who spent nearly his whole footballing life in Liverpool’s colours, a fresh start at Turf Moor gives him exactly what he was missing: a clear route forward.
Burnley Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Emmanuel Airoboma, who joins our U21s squad following a successful trial period ✍️
Congratulations, Emmanuel 👏
