Arsenal’s long pursuit of Igor Tyjon
The Premier League champions have pursued Tyjon for several transfer windows. The Athletic reported earlier this week that the England Under-18 international had declined to sign a professional contract with Blackburn, who instead extended his scholarship agreement into a third year. Arsenal made several bids for Tyjon during that time, but Blackburn were unwilling to sell, leading to a lengthy standoff between the two clubs. That standoff has now been resolved, with an agreement reached and the teenager set to complete his medical today, August 21, before finalising the transfer.
Igor Tyjon’s career so far
Tyjon joined Blackburn from Rochdale in the summer of 2023. He has scored one goal in 14 appearances for Blackburn’s Under-18 side and 13 goals in 33 games for their Under-21 side. He has also made three appearances for Blackburn’s first team, with two of those coming during the 2024/25 season and the final cameo arriving last season.
During his time at Blackburn, Tyjon has played across several attacking roles, including up front, in attacking midfield and on the wing. He has represented England’s Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 sides, as well as Poland’s Under-16 team.
