Tottenham are desperate for attacking reinforcements heading into the new season.
Tottenham Hotspur look to have finally got their primary attacking target of the summer transfer window. After a year of back and forth with Manchester City, Savinho is close to joining the Lilywhites.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Spurs and Manchester City have agreed a £75 million deal for Savinho. Add-ons should take the deal up to £85m. While the negotiations with the Sky Blues for the Brazilian winger have gone on for the last couple of months and moved excruciatingly slowly, Roberto De Zerbi will be pleased that the deal is finally coming to a conclusion.
In addition to Savinho, Spurs have also reached a broad agreement with Man City for Omar Marmoush. The deal will be close to £70 million plus add-ons. With the move close to being finalised, Tottenham are now preparing for another attacking addition.
Tim Sherwood backs Spurs to make a move for a Chelsea forward
It is easy to see why De Zerbi is desperate for attacking reinforcements. Spurs are entering the new campaign with an injury-prone and unreliable Dominic Solanke and Richarlison, while Mathys Tel remains a work in progress. If they want to challenge for Champions League spots, that simply won’t be enough.
The Lilywhites have been linked with a shock move for Chelsea outcast Nicolas Jackson. The Senegal forward has a £65million price tag this summer, as Chelsea plan to reshuffle their frontline. He spent last season out on loan at Bayern Munich, but the German champions did not trigger the terms of his obligation-to-buy clause.
Now, former manager Tim Sherwood thinks Nicolas Jackson could be the answer to Tottenham’s conundrum in attacking, comparing him with experienced English striker Danny Welbeck.
“De Zerbi does like the big (strikers) as well. Danny Welbeck, he always seemed to stick him up there and play runners off of him. So maybe Nicolas Jackson could be the answer if he wants to come,” Tim Sherwood exclusively told Football FanCast.
Tottenham must avoid Nicolas Jackson signing
Spurs struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis last campaign, scoring only 48 goals in 38 Premier League matches. Thus, it comes as no surprise that De Zerbi wants an out-and-out goalscorer in his ranks, with both Solanke and Richarlison failing to prove their worth in N17.
Can Jackson be that player for De Zerbi? Not really. The Senegalese star netted only eight goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern last season. He operated as a back-up to Harry Kane, yet those numbers are not good enough for Tottenham to take a punt on. And given his struggles at Chelsea, Jackson is a player our club bosses must stay away from.
