**Liverpool continue to push for wide signings during the summer transfer window, but it looks as though a new centre forward may also be on the cards.**
The Bradley Barcola saga has rumbled on throughout the summer, with Paris Saint-Germain proving to be stubborn, but there is still hope that a deal will be done in the coming days.
Yankuba Minteh has also been added to Liverpool’s recent reported targets, with claims on Thursday saying Brighton have rejected a £50m offer for his services.
Now, a [respected source](https://www.caughtoffside.com/author/indy-kaila/) has taken to [_X_](https://x.com/indykaila/status/2090552013528646129?s=20) to provide the latest on Barcola, also claiming that the Merseysiders are eyeing up a new No.9 this month:
_“Bradley Barcola deal surging forward. The move is progressing very well right now. But that’s not all. Our Liverpool source confirms the Reds are actively hunting a No. 9 to provide backup for Isak. William Gomes from Porto has been mentioned in the corridors of LFC._
_“Don’t be shocked if the name that lands is also one nobody saw coming. This is short-term only. Loan deals are firmly on the table. Names already circling: Nicolas Jackson, Nick Woltemade, Endrick. Jean-Philippe Mateta has also been discussed, but that would be a full permanent transfer.”_
**Liverpool need an Alexander Isak deputy this summer**
-------------------------------------------------------
This is a promising update for Liverpool, who feel worryingly light at centre forward currently, and are only an Alexander Isak injury away from a major problem. The Swede has had his fitness problems, so they are walking on a tightrope.
Huge Ekitike is a long-term absentee, and there is no guarantee that he will return the same player from a serious Achilles injury, while using Cody Gakpo down the middle isn’t ideal, if he even stays at Anfield.
Liverpool don’t need to spend big on a striker, instead simply signing a solid backup to Isak who can fill in when required and add quality from the substitutes’ bench in games.
A loan move may even make the most sense, as mentioned in the update above, providing Andoni Iraola with the attacking depth he so badly craves going into the new season.
