Anthony Edwards could have Timberwolves set up for something special image
The Minnesota Timberwolves have a slew of stars on their roster, and that's one reason why they were expected to be in the running to get LeBron James.
Of course, that didn't happen, but it doesn't take away from the reality that the Timberwolves have a stacked lineup. Heading into the new season, they have a lot of excitement around those guys.
The three key players are Anthony Edwards, Ayo Dosunmu and Joan Beringer. Now, the Timberwolves are getting a projection that should make Minnesota happy.
Timberwolves get high praise for their future
Stephen Noh of The Sporting News has ranked the Timberwolves the No. 5 best team in the NBA for the 2029-30 season. So, yes, this is a future projection, which means we'll have to wait a while to see if it comes true.
In the long term, he sees the team sticking with its stars.
"The Wolves theoretically could pivot away from Edwards, Ball and McDaniels by 2029," he notes. "More likely, they will extend all three and roll with that group."
He adds that "even with those three, the Wolves could look pretty different. Gobert will have aged out of being a dominant defensive center. Joan Beringer will hopefully be good enough to take his place. Minnesota doesn't have the draft assets to trade for another plus starter at the position."
But, in the end, Edwards is what puts the Timberwolves over the top now and in the future. This team is lucky to have him, and if he continues to provide the solid backbone for Minnesota, they certainly have a shot to remain among the NBA's elite.
