Everton Team News
Everton have some midfield injury concerns ahead of their opener, with manager David Moyes potentially missing his Player of the Season from last campaign.
“James Garner is returning from a hernia operation,” outlined Moyes
Moyes will definitely be without midfielder Tim Iroegbunam and new signing Christian Norgaard, with both not fit enough to feature:
“Tim Iroegbunam has an abductor strain so won’t make it tomorrow, and Christian Norgaard may not be fit enough to start.”
New signing Johnson is expected to feature just three months after winning the Conference League with opponents Crystal Palace. Academy graduate Harrison Armstrong is expected to start after impressing at the back end of last season, and manager Moyes was full of praise for the 19-year-old in his pre-match presser.
“Harrison is on the path to becoming a first-team player, even quicker than I anticipated; he has stepped up and started well in pre-season,”. Everton hold a superb record over their South London opponents, having lost to the Eagles in just one of their previous 23 Premier League meetings.
Crystal Palace Team News
Palace are expected to have a full squad to choose from on opening day, with just a slight concern over the fitness of captain Dean Henderson. Palace manager Pierre Sage stated that “He will train with the other goalkeepers today, after which a final assessment will be made.”

French international Jean-Phillippe Mateta hasn’t featured during pre-season after returning from the World Cup, but Sage confirmed that the striker would be in the matchday squad at the Hill Dickinson:
“He didn’t play the last game (in pre-season), it was not a game to risk, but now we can give him more minutes.”
Despite the Eagles struggling in pre-season, the return of Cheick Doucoure from injury has been a positive, with the midfielder expected to make a matchday squad for the first time in over 18 months. New Palace signing McNeil is in contention to make his debut for the Eagles against his former side after joining the South London side after four seasons at Everton.
